God forgives
So when we first come to God, the very first thing we receive from him is forgiveness.
He wants to forgive us, no matter what we’ve done. He never misses an opportunity to show us mercy when we’re sorry for our mistakes. God’s character is amazing because he forgives literally any sin.
And get this, the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from all our sins, no matter how big or small. It’s not just some act of faith on our part, either. When we’re sorry, God really does forgive us.
The ultimate example of forgiveness was when Jesus was hanging on the cross and he asked God to forgive the people who were killing him.
He didn’t ask God to punish them, but to forgive them because they didn’t know what they were doing. That’s just how deep God’s forgiveness goes.
And get this, God’s forgiveness is forever.
Jesus already died for all our past, present, and future sins. That means there is forgiveness for things we’ll do tomorrow, it’s already taken care of. Our only part is to accept and apply the forgiveness that’s already been given to us.
Now, here’s the thing: we can’t earn God’s forgiveness by doing good things or being a “good person.” Our good deeds just don’t make the cut. But the good news is that we don’t have to earn it. God forgives us because he already chose to, through the completed work of a bleeding Jesus on the cross.
It’s all about accepting his forgiveness and living in the freedom from condemnation.
